Rattlesnake Season

Rattlesnake season has come early this year, and they are all over the place. Wildlife relocation teams have already taken over three times the amount of calls at this time of year in comparison to last year. Prevention and precaution are of utmost importance right now for you and your pet.

Always keep your dog on a leash, even well behaved dogs wander off trails and sidewalks and that puts them at high risk for bites.

If you live in an area that is known to have snakes present, keep your yard free of clutter as much as possible and keep your cats indoors. Go out and check your yard for snakes before letting your dog outside and keep a close eye on them while they are out.

There are rattlesnake avoidance classes and a vaccine available to help avoid a fatal injury. Click here to get more information on the Rattlesnake vaccine.

If your pet does get bit, seek immediate veterinary attention. We are here to field emergencies if needed, but if we know that your pet has been bitten by a rattlesnake, we will immediately send you to the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center for care and potentially anti-venom treatment.

The Pet Emergency and Specialty Center is located at 5232 Jackson Dr. in La Mesa, 91942 and their phone number is 619-462-4800.
